How We Test Carriers
Our Fit‑First protocol is built to answer one question: will this carrier fit your body, climate, and routine—safely and comfortably—today and six months from now? We combine standardized lab measures with real‑life field tests so our scores reflect what actually happens in kitchens, airports, parks, and rainy sidewalks.
1) Fit Range & Body Inclusivity
- Tester panel: XXS–5X, multiple heights, torso lengths, chest configurations, and mobility levels.
- Newborn through toddler: we assess support and adjustability across growth stages.
- Metrics: waistband range and stability, strap path and reach, seat depth/width, panel height, and ability to achieve knee‑to‑knee support and M‑position without pressure points.
2) Safety & Ergonomics Checks
- Airway visibility and chin‑to‑chest spacing, unobstructed nose/mouth.
- Hip‑healthy positioning per current best practices; knee height relative to hips and pelvic tilt comfort.
- Load distribution (shoulders vs. hips), pressure mapping at common hotspots, and pain‑free wearing windows (e.g., 45–90 min, 1–3 hrs).
3) Setup‑Time & Learning Curve
- Don/doff timing in calm and "urgent" scenarios.
- Steps to secure, likelihood of strap twists or fabric slack, and clarity of manufacturer instructions.
- Multi‑user harmony: repeatable presets or markers for quick handoffs between differently sized caregivers.
4) Climate & Fabric Performance
- Breathability and moisture management under heat/humidity; quick‑dry timing after a light soak.
- Cold‑weather layering clearance and draft points; rain and wind resistance where relevant.
- Fabric stretch recovery, edge softness, and skin comfort over time.
5) Use‑Case Ratings
We score for: newborn snuggles at home, errands and daycare drop‑off, long walks, travel/airports, and hikes. Each rating weighs fit security, comfort duration, adjustability on the go, storage/packability, and ease of cleaning.
6) Accessibility & Postpartum Considerations
- Low range‑of‑motion setups (front clips, magnetic or one‑handed buckles, minimal overhead reach).
- Low‑waist‑pressure options for c‑section recovery; lumbar support and strap routing for back/pelvic floor comfort.
- Feeding‑friendly adjustments with safety cautions and re‑securing steps.
7) Durability & Care
- Hardware stress checks, seam inspections, and repeated washes to observe shrink, fade, or deformation.
- Warranty clarity, spare parts availability, and ease of cleaning after spills.
8) Scoring & Transparency
- Weighted categories: Fit & Safety (40%), Comfort & Ergonomics (20%), Setup & Sharing (15%), Climate/Fabric (15%), Use‑Case Versatility (10%).
- We publish why a carrier scored high or low and who it fits best (and least) to support confident decisions.
9) Review Updates & Limitations
We retest with design revisions and expand data as our panel grows. Real bodies vary; scores guide, they don’t dictate. Always follow your carrier’s instructions and your pediatrician’s guidance for special cases.
